    Dr. David Eckman

In Western Culture the issue of gender is front and center. As those who take the Bible seriously it is important to have a clear understanding of what the Bible teaches. In addition to this clear understanding, we need effective ways of communicating this to our youth and college age individuals. This workshop will do both.

Gender confusion, gender attraction, and gender significance are key issues in our culture. We will examine not only the meaning of gender within the Bible, but we will address how gender identity is formed and how gender attraction develops. Critical information will be presented on the differences between males and females and how God intended the genders to relate. The workshop will clarify the relationship between biological gender and gender identity.

    Church Coffeeshops 101

    March 6, 2020 - 1:30 PM Room: C6

    Kelly Kaufman

    Kelly Kaufman

Café 4 opened its doors in 2012, operating with the vision of being an attractive and welcoming face for 3Crosses Church. The café leadership committed itself to high quality and healthy products and to a Disneyland-style friendliness in an attempt to reach a local community that had high standards for food, but few positive connections with a church body. In these last 7 years, our customer base has soared: we have over 180 chairs and it is often difficult to find a seat! Our baristas have story after story of people who found a place of refuge at Café 4, who went there to escape from a toxic work or home life, who opened a business on Café 4 wifi, who had their first date there, who were invited into a church service, who can point to Café 4 as a key step in how they became reconciled with the Lord. This café is serving quality coffee, packing people in seats, and encouraging people in their relationships with God. We want to share the vision and steps that God has given us; we want to share His successful ministry with other churches; we want to empower other church cafes and help with advice in their own contexts. This workshop will further a church’s knowledge in one way they can effectively engage with their community, becoming a space that is welcoming and attractive, and speaking true words into the lives of their community members. Attendees to this workshop will receive practical knowledge (including suggested priorities, mechanisms for spiritual encouragement, advice on the use of volunteers, and suggestions for cashflow) that is relevant to their current or prospective ministries, and ministry leaders will receive tips, tricks, and methods to streamline their work and let them focus on the spiritual side of this type of job. Presented by Kelly Kaufman, Café 4 Floor Manager and Lindsey Cavallero, Café 4 Ministry Director.

    Growth Centered Family

    March 6, 2020 - 1:30 PM Room: D2

    Cecil Wong

    Cecil Wong

What is a growth centered family? It’s one that prioritizes the development of every member through growing emotional and relational health and maturity; not only of the children but also parents. It fosters an environment that prioritizes the building up of what matters most - an identity rooted in eternal love and wisdom.

    Why growth-centered?

A growth center prevents unhealthy centers from developing, ie. child-centered, fear-centered, performance-centered, activity-centered, work-centered, education-centered, etc. When emotions and relationships are growing in maturity, members of the family will have wisdom and love to get clear and go forward with what matters most. Secondary priorities will be appropriately managed but the main things (people - their hearts, souls, condition of their interior lives) will not be overlooked, forgotten or sacrificed.

Family life is incredibly dynamic and it takes a lot of wisdom and strength to successfully navigate marriage, parenting, life after kids, and grandparenting.

Being growth-centered doesn’t leave this highest priority up to chance. Elevating the value of lifelong learning simply makes sense and it will go a long way in preparing for all the storms ahead. And there is great reward and joy in making it through in one piece, intact “till death do us part”.

Being growth-centered is absolutely essential to experience decades of increasing relevance, love, joy, and hope!
