Do you have a preschooler? Do you minister to preschoolers? Do you ever come in contact with preschoolers? Then this workshop is for you! Preschool is a key time in a child's formation, spiritual and otherwise. As we interact with preschoolers, especially those we are in relationship and responsible for in some way, we need to be intentional about understanding how they are growing & understanding the world. Doing so can inform the way that we help them understand their own spirituality and better help them to meet the God who is already speaking to their hearts. This workshop is especially suited for those are looking to build into the home as the primary place where faith is lived out and nurtured.

Head to Heart, How to have Biblical Truth Become Emotionally Powerful and Instinctual

    March 9, 2019 - 8:00 AM Room: Heritage Room

    Dr. David Eckman

    Dr. David Eckman

Christians need a discipleship program that takes the truths of the Bible and makes them a vibrant aspect of their emotional life, instincts, and relationships. We will present such a process and introduce the resources to carry out this new approach to Christian instruction.

Sad but true most discipleship programs teach the mind what to think and what the person ought to do but often the true transformation of the heart is left unaddressed. The Bible has a distinct approach to the changing of the emotions, the instincts, and the perspective. We will present that approach and the resources to make true transformation a part of your preaching and discipleship approach. At the same time a rich relationship to each Member of the Trinity will be presented and integrated into this discipleship process.

Reaching Out To Muslims: Understanding Honor/Shame Worldview

    March 9, 2019 - 8:00 AM Room: N13

    Bruce Green

    Bruce Green

In our increasingly culturally-diverse community we need more tools in our evangelistic toolbox. Understanding worldviews, both ours and our neighbors, can help meet this need. Most unreached people groups in the world, including Muslims, think according to an honor-shame worldview. Western Christianity, on the other hand, is steeped in the contrasting freedom-guilt worldview. Still other cultures have a dominant fear-power worldview. Debilitating blind spots can happen when only one worldview is considered. Such worldview blindness can erect barriers of suspicion instead of building bridges of trust. Since the Bible was largely written in an honor-shame context, Christians can distort the good news if we interpret the Bible using only freedom-guilt filters. The freedom-guilt worldview can produce “freedom-out-of-control” excesses in society such as gender-choice confusion, radical feminism and abortion-on-demand. People from honor-shame cultures who are now living in our communities can react to these extremes with fear and isolation. Alternatively, extreme application of the honor-shame worldview can support “honor killings” and even terrorism. We must avoid judging by the extremes and see value in the core worldviews. In reaching Muslims, understanding honor-shame worldview is more important than understanding Islam. Our job is not to shame Muhammad but to honor Jesus. We can avoid religious debate as we seek to honor Jesus.

    Mentoring Boys into Manhood

    Roy Smith

    Roy Smith

Many fathers are relationally isolated and emotionally disconnected, leaving them at a loss for how to lead boys into manhood. Boys are left to their own devices, and turn to the world for its faulty definition of manhood. They soon find themselves acting out, bored, passive, and violent, just like so many other males in our culture. This workshop will address the culture’s attack on boys, the impact of biology on boys learning style, mentoring and educational principles to help boys develop into honorable men and concrete action steps moms and dads can take in the developmental process of boys.

How To Develop an Intimate Prayer Life

    March 9, 2019 - 8:00 AM Room: A3

    John Herndon

    John Herndon

It is good to praise God for the great things He has done and is about to do in you, for you and with you. But you have to understand is that while praise is good, going beyond the veil to worship is what God desires of us. We were not created to praise Him, God is not ego driven that He is depended on your exalting Him. God is God whether you praise Him or not! We are created to have intimacy with Him, we are created to love Him as He created us to love us. God's heart is pouring out to us because He loves us. Can you remember how you felt when you first fell in love, how you couldn't sleep until you heard their voice? Remember how you couldn't wait for them to wake up so you could talk to them, you took long walks and shared ice cream, took pictures because there was no one on this Earth that could compare to them.

God wants to have intimacy with you, I want to help you go beyond the veil and into the secret place with God where as no one else matters but being with Jesus.
