2020 Workshop

Worship Arts: Electric Guitar in Modern Worship

3/6/2020 12:00 - 1:15 p.m. Room: N12

The electric guitar has become an integral part of today’s worship sound and there are some essential (yet simple) techniques you can use to greatly expand your dynamic range as you play this powerful instrument (and make the band sound more awesome!). Much of the material will work for acoustic guitar as well, so if you’re an acoustic player curious about playing electric, join us! We’ll explore

•Selecting quality gear- guitars, pedals, amps, pedalboards, etc. •The basics of solid technique (with simple exercises) and creating good tone •Making the leap from acoustic to electric guitar and differences in playing each •Exploring effects: overdrive, delay, reverb, flange, wah and volume pedals, etc. •Great chord voicings, shapes, and scales to know •Playing parts for impact (not just banging away on chords) •Tips and tricks for creating powerful moments and interesting dynamics •Complementing (not competing) with the rest of the band •Playing live with loops/click/tracks •Great tone in a small room •Preparing (during the week) so you play with confidence and freedom •Time for in depth Q & A and interaction with the instructor
