2017 Workshop

Christian Education: Preparing and Leading Inductive Bible Studies

3/4/2017

The inductive method of studying the Bible is analogous to an investigation attempting to answer such questions as: Who? What? Why? When? Where? and How? Instead of starting with a premise or conclusion, it instead focuses on the passage of Scripture in its immediate context. It asks a lot of questions in an attempt to then draw conclusions and applications to everyday life.

The purpose of this workshop is to present you with some practical tools and methods you can use to open the Scriptures to both yourself and others. Using Luke 18:18-27 (Jesus’ encounter with the rich young ruler) my workshop goals are twofold:

• To discover from the biblical passage what Jesus was communicating to his original audience, and . . .

• To discover its relevance and application to you and me today.

If successful, you and I will encounter Jesus and be transformed by his Word.

To accomplish these goals, I will focus on three primary areas:

1. OBSERVATION - What does the passage say?

2. INTERPRETATION - What does the passage mean?

3. APPLICATION - How does the passage apply to me? In other words, “So what?”
