2016 Workshop

Asian: Starting an English Ministry in Asian Immigrant Churches

3/5/2016

The greatest challenge facing immigrant congregations is to start, retain, and sustain a thriving ministry to the English speaking population. In most cases, the English-speakers are the children of immigrant families who choose not to stay in their home churches. But if you believe that God can transform your church into a thriving multi-lingual, inter-generational ministry, then come to this workshop. Our conviction is that such churches have an important place in God’s kingdom.

This hands-on workshop will draw on Dr. Tim Tseng’s experience as a Pastor of English Ministries at a Taiwanese church, Founder and Executive Director of ISAAC, and as a seminary professor of Asian American Christianity. Participants will identify practices that both hinder and help English speaking members to thrive in immigrant churches. We will explore demographics, congregational history and culture, theology, and inter-generational dynamics as factors that can affect English ministries. By the end of the workshop, participants will have the tools to begin building a ministry to English-speaking Asian Americans.
