Infant/Toddler Development Specialist

Allied Therapy Services

San Jose, CA

408-679-2220

Lara Elfstrand is a bilingual infant/toddler development specialist. She provides early intervention services to English and Spanish-speaking families of infants and young children at risk or diagnosed with developmental disabilities in the South San Francisco Bay area. She is the head teacher at Allied's Beginning Center, and she also sees some families in their homes. The loss of her son to mitochondrial disease at 17 months of age inspires her to walk alongside families where things aren't going exactly as they had planned or expected. She feels so fortunate to have found a career path that she is very passionate about, that changes so many lives for the better, and that gives her an opportunity to keep fighting for good in families who have children with special needs. She holds a Masters of Arts in Early Childhood Special Education from Santa Clara University and has met the requirements for a Level 1 California teacher's credential in early childhood special education. She lives with her husband, Marshall, and their dog, Brutus, in Santa Clara, California. Lara's goal is to encourage, educate, and empower families so that children of all abilities will be known, loved, and motivated to learn.

2013 Workshop

Special Needs: Supporting Positive Behavior and Inclusion in the Early Years

3/8/2013

The goal of this workshop is to take some of the fear out of disability ministry, and to increase the chances that our children will develop into healthy teenagers. We will discuss strategies that parents and teachers can use to create an environment where all children can be known, loved, and motivated to learn.
