Darrell Kenworthy brings both parent and pastor perspectives to disability ministry. Over 30 years of ministry as an ordained minister, 12 as senior pastor, 10 in youth/associate ministry and 10 in disability ministry, Darrell, along with his wife, Donnell, launched Special Grace Ministries in 2011, which consults, resources and trains local churches in special needs/disability ministry. Their 24 year old son, DJ, a happy, engaging believer in Christ, who loves to worship, also has Down syndrome, autism, medical and mobility issues which led to a "new normal" for their family. Besides DJ, Darrell has 4 adult daughters, 10 grandchildren, and multiple foster grandchildren! His greatest joy is to see each family member come to know Jesus.Darrell currently oversees the beginning of the disability ministry of the Northern California-Nevada District Assemblies of God and serves on the leadership team for Joni and Friends Sacramento area ministry. His journey parenting a child with disabilities has caused him to dig deep into Scripture to peel back the mystery of God’s plan in disabilities, surveying the Word from a disability perspective. He brings fresh insight, rooted in God’s Word, to our mission to reach ALL for Christ.

Special Needs: Disability in the Bible - a Deeper Look

When looking into God's Word for answers to the difficult questions surrounding disability, it can be discouraging at first. In the Old Testament, disability is identified with subjects such as judgement, punishment, separation, disqualification, shame, isolation, weakness, and so on. On the other hand, the majority of the New Testament identifies disability as something to be cured, healed, or from which to be delivered. For those of us in the church today, where do we find the hope, the promise, the joy, the acceptance for those living with disabilities? We find it IN THE CROSS! This study takes an in-depth look at what Jesus accomplished on the cross and does a comparison of a Biblical view of individuals with disabilities before and after what Jesus accomplished on the cross!
