Christian Education: A Christian View of Science

3/5/2016

Prominent atheists frequently use science to attack Scripture. They claim that new scientific discoveries explain the universe with no need for God. Yet modern science arose in a Christian setting and many early scientists were committed Christians.

How should Christians think about science? How is God involved with nature? Did God create a universe that runs on its own through scientific laws, or is God directly involved with its everyday operation?

We will summarize the Christian origin of modern science, suggest reasons for present-day tensions between science and Scripture, and present elements of a biblical perspective of science.

21st Century Issues: How Old is God's Creation?

3/6/2015

Modern science tells us that the earth and universe are billions of years old. Many creationists insist that the earth and universe can be no more than a few thousand years old. Are nature and Scripture in conflict on this issue? What do nature and Scripture really tell us about the age of God's creation? Is the record of nature consistent with a young earth? Is Scripture consistent with an old earth?

Serious, scholarly Christians have given much thought to these questions over the centuries. We will examine what Scripture tells us about the age of God's creation, summarizing the major interpretations held by Evangelicals. We will also examine what the record of nature tells us about the age of God's creation.

Christian Education: How Old is God’s Creation?

3/9/2013

Modern science tells us that the earth and universe are billions of years old. Many creationists insist that the earth and universe can be no more than a few thousand years old. Are nature and Scripture in conflict on this issue? What do nature and Scripture really tell us about the age of God’s creation? Is the record of nature consistent with a young earth? Is Scripture consistent with an old earth?

Serious, scholarly Christians have given much thought to these questions over the centuries. We will examine the major views of origins which have been held, summarizing the main components, main conclusions, and history of these varied views. This will help us to clarify the scientific and biblical issues which underlie the controversy.

Pastors: Science and Faith Issues for Pastors and Church Leaders

3/2/2012

Many Christians today are troubled by a perceived conflict between science and faith, fueled by the forceful rhetoric of the "new atheists." Other Christians are troubled by a perceived conflict between nature and Scripture relating to issues of origins. How can pastors and other church leaders help their congregations to think clearly and biblically about these issues? We will summarize some aspects of Christian theology which tend to become lost in this discussion. We will also present some helpful philosophical perspectives and a list of resources.

21st Century Issues: Science and God: Answering the "New Atheists"

3/5/2011

We will summarize the arguments used by the "new atheists" and equip (non-scientist) Christians to answer them effectively. We will expose the unbiblical assumptions beneath the arguments and will present simple scientific arguments for the existence of God.

21st Century Issues: The Big Bang: Friend or Foe?

3/5/2011

Some Christian apologists present the Big Bang as evidence for God, while others view it as opposing god. We will present a layman's level description of the Big Bang and its implications (a la William Lane Craig's "kalaam" argument) and show how it can be compatible with a high view of Scripture.
