I am native Californian, born and raised in Oakland. I received a bachelor’s degree from the University of California, Berkeley and a master’s degree from St Mary’s College. I began my career as a Marriage and Family therapist at Community Presbyterian Counseling center in Danville in 1995 and moved on to a private practice in Pleasant Hill in 2007. My passion for working with families that have been affected by disabilities began 6 years ago when I volunteered at Joni and Friends family camp in the Santa Cruz Mountains. One of the many things that touch my heart was becoming aware of the feeling of exclusion, rejection and loneliness that these families experience.

Special Needs: From Exclusion to Inclusion - How to Emotionally Support Families Affected by Disabilities

3/8/2013

All people are sacred and precious in God's sight whatever their capacities or incapacities, whatever their weakeness or strengths may be. However, families affected by disability experience isolation, rejection and loneliness. They feel excluded from society and long to feel that they belong and are accepted. They yearn for friendship and understanding. All of us are more or less locked up in our cultures, in our habits and in our friendships. It can be difficult for us to accept and reach out to those who cannot live by our "norms". We will learn how to be more open, vulnerable and accepting to those who we see as different. We can bring healing and respect to a families affected by disability.
