Pastors: The Belief Cycle: A Tool for Pastors and Counselors

3/8/2019 10:30 - 11:45 a.m. Room: Heritage Room

We at Becoming What God Intended Ministries have created a tool that has been found very effective in discipling Christians and helping believers to address emotional issues in their lives. Showing the relationship between how we see things spiritually, our perspective, our emotions, desires, and actions, it creates insight and action for change.

As a result of disciplining thousands of believers the conclusion we have come to is that often Christians are confused about how their inner life works, and how the Spirit of God influences and changes that inner life. One of our team members created a tool that addresses such confusion, and allows the Spirit of God to work. We will share that tool and give examples of how it may be used.

Pastors: How We See is How We Live!

3/8/2019 1:30 - 2:45 p.m. Room: Heritage Room

Spiritual insight and “eyesight” is critical to spiritual growth. We must recognize that we have inherited “Adam’s Eyes” so that we often see God as untrustworthy, ourselves and others with hate, and this world as dangerous and we are unprotected from its dangers. How do we change this?

Our false views of nearly everything resist establishing a healthy relationship with God the Father, a vital experience of our Union with Christ, and the empowerment of the Holy Spirit. Not only have we inherited their physical DNA; we also inherited so to speak their spiritually fallen DNA. Their DNA has completely altered our spiritual eyesight. We will see that the New Testament shows us how to establish healthy spiritual insight. This workshop is a must for pastors and counselors who want to have an effective approach to spiritual transformation.

Pastors: Participating In the Life of God

3/8/2019 4:30 - 5:45 p.m. Room: Heritage Room

We must recognize the Father’s unique role within the Trinity and his unique love for us. With our new way of seeing God and ourselves comes a new way of seeing the Trinity. This workshop will present a clear picture of the interrelationships of the Trinity, and how we participate with them.

We need to recognize that the Son and the Holy Spirit are fully cooperating with God in his love for us. The Father is the focus Person of the Trinity and the other two members cooperate in the Father’s desire to share his love for his Son with us. So we can experience that love he has placed us in Christ. Such a joy demands a radical experience of living within the Trinity.

Christian Education: Head to Heart, How to have Biblical Truth Become Emotionally Powerful and Instinctual

3/9/2019 8:00 - 9:15 a.m. Room: Heritage Room

Christians need a discipleship program that takes the truths of the Bible and makes them a vibrant aspect of their emotional life, instincts, and relationships. We will present such a process and introduce the resources to carry out this new approach to Christian instruction.

Sad but true most discipleship programs teach the mind what to think and what the person ought to do but often the true transformation of the heart is left unaddressed. The Bible has a distinct approach to the changing of the emotions, the instincts, and the perspective. We will present that approach and the resources to make true transformation a part of your preaching and discipleship approach. At the same time a rich relationship to each Member of the Trinity will be presented and integrated into this discipleship process.

Marriage & Families: Why People Argue

3/9/2019 12:45 - 2:00 p.m. Room: Heritage Room

Most family arguments follow a predictable pattern. This presentation shows how tension leads to one of four predictable patterns. We will share those patterns in an exercise of self-discovery, and give an alternative biblical pattern.

Virginia Satir has isolated four miscommunication patterns that couples fall into. Understanding those patterns and knowing how to positively change them will solve many marital difficulties. We will see these patterns are described in the Bible and the solution to them the Bible also presents. Once these patterns are understood and the couple has the alternative approach, they will have a better relationship and a deeper friendship.

Asian: Discipling the Chinese Christian

3/9/2019 3:45 - 5:00 p.m. Room: N11

Every culture carries its baggage into Christianity. Like with everything else we must keep the best and throw out the rest. What are the particular challenges that Chinese individuals face as they enter the church? We will examine those, and share strategies.

With 2500 years of Confucian influence on their culture, and the tremendous upheaval of the cultural revolution, the Chinese Christian in China, Hong Kong, and the United States have utterly unique challenges to their Christian walk. We will examine six different areas to see how to meet those challenges, and share handouts containing effective spiritual exercises.

2018 Workshops

Marriage & Families: Emotional Management

3/2/2018

Because we are made in the Image of God we have emotions. These emotions can be a great ally in our spiritual life or they can lead us away from a healthy spirituality. Emotions are the music of the soul. When our soul is happy or in sorrow, it is telling us critically important information. We can not only learn important things from our emotions, but we have principles of management within Scripture we shall learn.

Marriage & Families: The Parenting Principle

3/2/2018

Parents have a pattern in Scripture that will create a long term success in raising a family. As we grow up we learn skills through imitation. As Christian adults we will see that imitating God the Father creates a solid foundation for parenting.

Throughout Scripture there is a detailed description of what God the Father is like. Those descriptions create a pattern for parents to follow in child raising. We will examine the pattern and isolate the keys to God the Father’s approach. Those keys begin with a sense of how the Father relates to us emotionally. Further, they go on to describe how he acts in forgiveness and relationships. With parents having so many different backgrounds and influences on them, it is important to embrace the biblical pattern.

Marriage & Families: The Danger of False Instincts

3/3/2018

Too often our Bible teaching emphasizes what we should know and what we should do, but it does not deal with the deeper issues of our hearts –our instincts. Those instincts often can be false and unhealthy. A false instinct such as earning God’s love often feels right but is dangerously wrong. Numerous examples of these instincts will be given. We will see how to recognize them, and change them through an effective biblical pattern. A handout will give specific details on what to do.

2017 Workshops

Pastors: From a Dysfunctional Church to a Healthy One

3/3/2017

Research has shown that the greatest hindrance to church leadership teams and churches are unaddressed problems from family backgrounds. On the one hand, we can simply say these are the works of the flesh but on the other hand, saying so does not solve the problem. We will see from Matthew 18 how these problems were addressed by Christ and the radical solutions that he proposed. We will share the predictable problems of stumbled adults who come out of dysfunctional homes and how they influence church life. We will share a strategy on how to address those issues.

Pastors: The Bible and Psychology

3/3/2017

Modern psychology has shared insights with what can be found in Scripture. We will examine three schools of psychology, Freudianism, Positive Psychology, and Cognitive Behavioral Psychology and compare it to what is in the Bible. We will see that some of the insights found in psychological systems are also found in the Bible. At the same time we will explore the importance of understanding how Scripture looks at human nature and how it presents its own psychology. The Bible does contain a psychological system as we shall see. This workshop repeats on Saturday @ 11:15.

Asian: Evangelism through Mental Health Ministry

3/4/2017

Both in the United States and China we have used helpful mental health principles, marriage enrichment, and family life teaching as a bridge to evangelism. We will present how this is done in two different cultures, American and Chinese. First, we will examine the principle behind such an approach. Second, we will present how this becomes an effective bridge for evangelism. Third, we will share how this can be connected to the church.

Asian: Effective Discipleship for Chinese American Churches

3/4/2017

Over the past thirty years we have trained Chinese American pastors, leaders, and counselors on the seminary level and church level. The same approaches have been used in China with great effectiveness. The approach is designed to address cultural instincts and change them to Biblical ones. Our resources are extensive in Mandarin, Cantonese, and English. What we have in this approach is richly biblical while being sensitive to the cultural riches as well as cultural challenges of Chinese American churches.

2016 Workshops

Adult Small Groups: How to Finally Destroy a Performance Based Christianity

3/4/2016

A performance based relationship to God is based on exchanging our activity for God's blessing. It completely reverses the order of Biblical Christianity. In Christianity we are always responding to God's grace and blessing and not working for it. Sadly at the core of the performance based person is an emptiness that is filled by loyalty and activity. The purpose of this seminar is to show an effective path of repentance that will lead from a fixation on what we do for God to a delight in what the Trinity is doing for us.

Marriage & Families: The Three Families of Genesis and Your Family

3/5/2016

Three family types exist: healthy. performance based, and dysfunctional. Abraham's, Isaac's, and Jacob's mirror those families and can help our families. Abraham's family life was healthy and we can learn principles from him. Isaac's family was the perfect illustration of a performance based family and its problems. Learn from his mistakes. Jacob's family was classically dysfunctional and learn how God redeemed and rescued that family through Joseph. You can improve the health of your family life by understanding the families of Genesis. We also will offer a test on your family background.

Adult Small Groups: What Makes for Effective Discipleship?

3/5/2016

Paul the Apostle had a discipleship method with distinct goals. His goals were an encouraged heart, deep affection among believers, and a profound confidence in who Jesus is and what He has done (Colossians 2:1-4). Notice that each goal involved the affections or emotions. Most modern discipleship methods involve information and character development and ignore the emotions and instincts. In this seminar we will see how to change the emotions, the instincts, and the heart. With those changes a believer can be stabilized in their faith for a life time of joy and service.

Marriage & Families: How to Change a False Instinct

3/6/2015

False instincts plague individuals and create difficulties for Christian growth. This seminar will examine what false instincts are, where they come from and how to change them. Marriage & Families: How to be the Best Parent Possible

3/7/2015

To discover who God the Father is and how He relates to us leads to deep emotional changes that should become the foundation of our parenting instincts and skills. This workshop examines false conceptions of who the Father is and their unhealthy effects, and presents a fresh pattern for being “reparented” by God resulting in “an all encompassing and distinct sense that you have an Abba Father in Heaven.”

Marriage & Families: Emotional Liberation

3/7/2015

To be fully loved and accepted while being fully known is emotional liberation indeed! Many Christians struggle with the person they perceive themselves to be and it emotionally castrates them. Emotional liberation occurs when they realize the nature of God the Father’s acceptance and love. We will examine the emotional slavery of a false perception and the process of liberation resulting in “a sense of being loved and enjoyed by God the Father.”
