OUR YOUTH MATTER, INC.(OYM) "Changing How to Reach Today’s Teens"

OYM is a non-profit designed to equip youth leaders with the tools they need to produce vibrant and youth relevant programs, provide youth with leadership skills and educate all OUR YOUTH MATTER!

Our Youth Matter (OYM) was established in 2008, to demonstrate love to our youth and equip youth leaders with the tools they need to produce vibrant and youth relevant programs.

Due to the growing issue of violence, low self-esteem and poor academics among our youth, OYM took on the role as youth advocates because we believe our youth’s voice should be heard and research indicates that time with parents and other forms of parents' involvement in a child's life is crucial to positive development for children and adolescence.

OYM wants to challenge the church to rethink how they do youth ministry in order to reach the youth spiritually, emotionally, socially and academically.

We believe you can not reach the youth with the same old tactics. New and out of the box approaches has to be made in order to encourage, empower and save our youth to produce Leaders of Today!

Come as we discuss dating while Christian, find out if you are dating the wrong way, and avoid becoming a friend with benefits, our purpose when dating and keeping God first in all that we do.

3/9/2019 2:15 - 3:30 p.m. Room: D1

Our Youth Matter, Inc. has done several events to impact our community. Over the last 11 years we have held Vacation Bible School in the Park. We have supplied the community with backpacks, school supplies, hygiene kits, books and food bags with our largest event our Back 2 School Bash where 500-700 people is in attendance. We served hot meals, passed out goodie bags and warm items at our Thanksgiving in the Park event. We have given out Christian theme Easter baskets at a neighborhood Easter egg hunt. We have blessed families with toys at Christmas through our annual Toy Drive. Our holiday Adopt – A – Family is growing each year where we meet the needs of 10-25 families and provide gifts from their wish list. We have offered youth the opportunity to attend Professional Sporting events. Each of these events was held outside of the church where we were able to bless many people having a positive impact on our community. Join us for this workshop to explore how YOU can reach out to make a positive impact on YOUR community.

Youth: Building Spirit, Mind and Body through Sports

3/2/2018

We selected “sports” as a theme because almost every youth in your class will either be a member of a sports team, watch sports as a spectator, or have a favorite team that they follow. We will take 1 of 14 lessons on sports and do as a class. These will be exciting and adventurous experiences you can have with a curriculum! Whether you are teaching for the first time, an occasional teacher, or a seasoned one, it is our expectation that you will find this curriculum interesting, innovative, and easy to follow. There is not a great deal of content and recommended language to memorize and apply because our intent for this curriculum is to have you “facilitate” rather than “instruct”; raising questions and scenarios for students to consider, and situations for which they must problem-solve. Our hope is that we have designed a curriculum that will build self-confidence, character, and compassion in today’s youth. Some of the lessons consist of the “The Play Book that will show how God’s Word, The Holy Bible, is a “Play Book” for a victorious life. Serving on God’s Team - will show how positions on a sports team can illustrate how God’s presence works to accomplish a goal and His will for your life. Balance - To show that just as being able to stay balanced when participating in a sport, it is important to have balance in living a healthy Christian life. Join us as we are building spirit, mind, and body through sports.

Youth: Got JESUS?

3/7/2014

Is Jesus in your youth ministry? Come learn 4 ways to add Jesus Teachings to your youth ministry. 1. Jesus told parables to reach people. Youth like to hear stories. Jesus parables were purposeful, illustrative stories which helped people understand difficult things. The unknown was illustrated by the known. 2. Jesus always told the truth. Youth like when we are honest with them. Jesus was never compromising. He was never concerned with popularity, public opinion, or the polls. We should never stray from the truth when teaching teenagers. 3. Jesus used teachable moments. Youth like when we are spontaneous. Some of your best youth teachings will not happen in the classroom—it will happen on a ride home, on a trip, or in a counseling session. 4. Jesus used humor. Youth like to laugh. If you want to teach like Jesus, you should not feel obligated to be dry, boring, and humorless.
