Rob Wertheim was raised in a conservative Jewish home, the son of Holocaust survivors from Germany. He attended synagogue, went to Hebrew School and had his Bar Mitzvah at the age of 13. When Rob was in his teens, his older brother Steve, who had been an atheist or an agnostic at best, told Rob that he came to believe that Jesus is the Jewish Messiah. Rob initially thought that Steve was a traitor to his Jewish people as he believed that Christians were responsible for much of the persecution his family experienced in the Holocaust.
Rob was challenged to look at the Jewish scriptures for himself to see what they had to say about the Messiah and after a few months of reading and prayer, Rob came to the same conclusion. In the mean time, Rob's parents, Fred and Laura, had also heard about Steve's new faith and they were at the point of disowning Steve as their son. But because the family had been so close, they could not bring themselves to do this. They began to look at the scriptures as well because of their love for Steve. As a result, within a year, Steve, Rob and their parents came to faith in the Jewish Messiah, Y'shua (Jesus.) This was in 1975!
Rob has been on staff with Jews for Jesus for the last 24 years and currently serves as the San Francisco Branch Director. He is married to a Jewish believer, Sandy, who also works with Jews for Jesus at the international headquarters which is also in San Francisco. They have three grown children, Saul, Rose and Josh.
